How to turn on Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector, what it can and cannot do, how to fix it when it stops working, and how to have every shared file saved, named and filed for you.
The short answer
Claude works with Microsoft Teams from a Claude chat, through Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector: it reads the chats, channels and meeting transcripts your work account can see and, once an admin enables it, sends messages, asking each time. There is no Claude app inside Teams yet; Anthropic runs a waitlist for Claude Tag in Teams. Files shared in a channel live in the team's SharePoint library, which the connector reads. To have each shared file saved, renamed and filed as it lands, a Drive AI workflow does that.

How to connect Claude to Microsoft Teams
An admin approves the connector
A Microsoft Entra Global Administrator consents once for the organization, from Claude's connector settings or with Anthropic's admin consent link.
The owner enables the Teams tools
Teams send tools are blocked by default. An owner enables each one under Organization settings, Connectors, Microsoft 365, Tool permission restrictions; sending can only be set to ask every time.

Customize, Connectors, Microsoft 365, Connect. In a chat, switch it on from the + menu under Connectors.

Anthropic has a waitlist for Claude Tag in Microsoft Teams. Today, Claude models also run inside Microsoft's own Copilot and Copilot Studio, which are set up by your Microsoft admin.

- Search and read chats, channel conversations and meeting chats your account can see
- Read meeting details and transcripts
- Send chat and channel messages and replies, asking before each one, once enabled
- Read files shared in channels through SharePoint: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and text
It cannot
- Run inside Teams: Claude Tag for Teams is on a waitlist
- Send a Teams message without asking: sending cannot be set to always allow
- Attach files to Teams messages
- Connect a personal Microsoft account
- Change Teams settings or membership
Troubleshooting
Claude's Microsoft Teams connector not working?
403 "Missing scope" when listing teams
Your tenant consented before Teams permissions were added. Reconnecting will not fix it, because Microsoft does not show the consent screen again. A Global or Application Administrator re-runs Anthropic's admin consent link and checks for admin_consent=True. Revoked scopes have to be revoked again afterwards.
Claude reads Teams but cannot post
Teams send tools are off by default for every organization, and the connector-wide setting does not turn them on. An owner enables each one under Tool permission restrictions; then reconnect.
"Need admin approval" when connecting
A Global Administrator has to consent for the tenant first. After that, members connect without seeing the screen.
Claude cannot find a file shared in a channel
Channel files live in the team's SharePoint library, and new uploads take a while to be indexed. Name the team or the file exactly. Files shared in private chats live in the sender's OneDrive instead.

Prompts for Microsoft Teams
When someone shares a file in our Projects channel in Microsoft Teams, save a copy, read the client off it, rename it date-first, and file it under that client in Google Drive.
Client files posted in Teams end up in the client's folder, named the same way every time.
When a file is shared in our Legal channel in Microsoft Teams, ask AI whether it is a signed contract, and file signed contracts in SharePoint under Contracts by counterparty.
Executed agreements are pulled out of the channel and filed where legal looks for them.
When an invoice is shared in our Finance channel in Microsoft Teams, read the vendor and total off it, rename it date-first, and file it in OneDrive under Invoices by vendor.
Invoices posted in the channel are filed by vendor without anyone downloading them.

Is there a Claude app for Microsoft Teams?
Not from Anthropic yet. Anthropic says Claude Tag, its app for Slack, is coming to Microsoft Teams and runs a waitlist. Claude models already run in Microsoft's own Copilot and Copilot Studio, which your Microsoft admin controls.
Can Claude read Microsoft Teams messages?
Yes, through Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector: chats, channel conversations and meeting transcripts your work account can see. It needs a one-time Microsoft admin consent.
Can Claude post in Microsoft Teams?
Once an owner enables the Teams send tools, Claude can send chat and channel messages, and it asks before each one. Messages cannot carry attachments.
Does Microsoft Copilot use Claude?
Microsoft says Anthropic models are on by default for most commercial customers outside the EU, EFTA and UK, in Microsoft Copilot, Researcher and Copilot Studio. Admins control it in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Where are files shared in Microsoft Teams stored?
Files shared in a channel are stored in the team's SharePoint site, one folder per channel. Files shared in chats are stored in the sender's OneDrive.
