The short answer
ChatGPT works with Microsoft Teams three ways: OpenAI's Microsoft Teams app in Plugins, which searches chats and channels, reads meeting transcripts where they exist and, when enabled, sends messages and manages Planner tasks; an admin-indexed Teams sync on Enterprise and Edu; and @ChatGPT inside Teams on Business, Edu and Enterprise. None of them reads the files shared in Teams, which are reached through the SharePoint app. A Drive AI workflow saves, renames and files each shared file as it lands.

How to connect ChatGPT to Microsoft Teams
Connect the Teams app
Open Plugins, find Microsoft Teams, choose Connect and sign in with your work account. An admin may need to approve it first.
Admins consent, then enable actions
In the admin console, Plugins, Configure Microsoft permissions, an Entra admin consents. Approving a permission does not enable its action: the admin also sets actions and role access, and members reconnect.
Add @ChatGPT to Teams
On Business, Edu or Enterprise, an admin who is also an Entra Global Administrator adds Microsoft Teams under Agents, @ChatGPT agents, then installs the ChatGPT app for chosen users in the Teams admin center.
Enterprise and Edu: indexed sync
An admin can set up indexed search of chosen teams, channels and chats under Plugins, Microsoft Teams, Indexed search. It indexes message text, not files.

It cannot
- Read or index the files shared in Teams: the Teams app and sync skip attachments
- Give @ChatGPT your own access to files and private channels
- Join Teams meetings on its own to take notes: Record is started by hand, on Mac
- Return recordings, only their details
Troubleshooting
ChatGPT's Microsoft Teams connector not working?
An action fails after the admin consented
Consent does not enable actions. The ChatGPT admin enables them and sets role access, then members reconnect.
@ChatGPT says it is not enabled
"Not enabled for @ChatGPT" means the connection is off: enable it under Workspace connections in the admin console.
@ChatGPT does not respond in Teams
Check that the ChatGPT app is installed for those users in the Teams admin center, that Teams app policies allow it, and that the connection shows Ready. Retry a simple request in a new thread.
No transcript comes back for a meeting
Transcripts are returned only when one exists, your plan supports it and your account can open it. Turn on transcription in the meeting.

Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, then paste the server URL and sign in. Changing files from ChatGPT needs a Business or Enterprise workspace, where an admin publishes the server; on Pro, custom servers can only read.

Is there a ChatGPT app for Microsoft Teams?
Yes. @ChatGPT works inside Teams for Business, Edu and Enterprise workspaces, set up by an admin. Separately, the Microsoft Teams app in ChatGPT brings your Teams into a ChatGPT chat.
Can ChatGPT take notes in Microsoft Teams meetings?
The Teams app pulls transcripts that already exist from eligible meetings. ChatGPT Record on the Mac app can record a Teams meeting, but you start it by hand; automatic joining covers Google Meet only.
Can ChatGPT read files shared in Teams?
Not through the Teams app, which skips attachments. Channel files live in SharePoint, which ChatGPT reaches through its separate SharePoint app.
