The Drive AI desktop app showing workspace files and folders

What it does

Four things. Done well.

Browse your workspace

See every file and folder in your workspace. Navigate the same structure you use on the web — from your desktop.

Open files natively

Double-click to open files in the app they belong to. Word docs in Word, spreadsheets in Excel, images in Preview.

Work offline

Mark files or entire folders for offline access. Edit on a plane, at a cafe, anywhere. Changes sync when you reconnect.

Sync local folders

Point the app at a folder on your computer. Its contents sync into your workspace and stay in sync both ways.

How sync works

Local meets cloud. No conflicts.

Pick a folder. The app watches it. New files, edits, and deletes flow to your workspace automatically — and vice versa.

Select a folder

Choose any local folder — Documents, Desktop, a project directory.

Auto-sync

Changes detected instantly. Uploaded in the background.

Encrypted

Files encrypted in transit and at rest. Always.

Full workspace access

Everything you get on the web. On your desktop.

Search by content

Find files by what is inside them, not just the file name.

File previews

Preview PDFs, images, docs and more without opening another app.

Real-time sync

Edits on web or mobile appear on desktop instantly.

FAQ

Questions answered

Which platforms are supported?

The desktop app is available for macOS and Windows. Your workspace syncs across desktop, mobile, and web.

How does offline mode work?

Right-click any file or folder and select "Make available offline." The app downloads a local copy and keeps it in sync whenever you reconnect.

Can I sync existing local folders?

Yes. Point the app at any folder on your computer and it will sync its contents into your workspace. Changes on either side stay in sync automatically.

Does it replace Finder or File Explorer?

No. The app works alongside your native file manager. Files open in your default applications — Word, Excel, Photoshop, whatever you already use.

Is my data stored locally?

Only files you explicitly mark for offline access are stored locally. Everything else streams on demand. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Is the desktop app free?

Yes. The desktop app is free to download and use with any The Drive AI plan. Premium features like extra storage are available with a paid plan.
