Consent captured with timestamp and IP address

Optional email-based identity verification (6-digit OTP)

SHA-256 document hash at every state transition

Complete audit trail: viewed, filled, signed, declined

FAQ

Questions answered

Is an electronic signature legally binding?

Yes. Electronic signatures are legally binding under the U.S. ESIGN Act (15 U.S.C. 7001), the EU eIDAS Regulation, and equivalent laws in most countries. Our platform captures consent, identity verification, and a full audit trail to ensure enforceability.

Does the recipient need a The Drive AI account?

No. Recipients receive a secure link via email. They click it, review the document, sign, and they're done. No account, no app, no signup.

How does sequential signing work?

When you select "Sign in sequence," only the first signer is notified. Once they complete, the next signer is automatically notified. This continues until all parties have signed.

What happens after everyone signs?

The signed PDF is saved to your drive as a new file. All parties receive an email with a link to the completed document. The original remains unchanged.

What types of fields can I add?

Signature, initials, text input, date picker, checkbox, and dropdown. Each field can be assigned to a specific signer and marked as required or optional.

What is the e-sign disclosure?

Before signing, recipients must agree to an electronic signature disclosure that explains their rights under the ESIGN Act. This consent is logged with timestamp and IP address as part of the legally binding audit trail.

Can I verify signer identity?

Yes. Enable email verification to require signers to enter a 6-digit code sent to their email before they can sign. This adds an extra layer of identity assurance to the audit trail.

How are templates used?

After placing fields on a document, save the layout as a template. Next time, select the template when sending — fields are pre-placed automatically. You just add recipient emails.

What if someone declines to sign?

The envelope status changes to "Declined" and you're notified. The recipient can provide a reason. You can void the request and create a new one.
