The short answer
ChatGPT works with Slack two ways: OpenAI's Slack app inside ChatGPT, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, which searches and summarizes the messages, threads and DMs you can see; and @ChatGPT inside Slack for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces. Neither documents saving files shared in Slack into a drive. A Drive AI workflow does: each file shared in a channel you choose is saved, renamed from what it says, and filed where you pick.

How to connect ChatGPT to Slack
Connect Slack in Plugins
Open Plugins, find Slack, connect and sign in to your workspace. One workspace at a time; to switch, disconnect and connect again.
Slack admin approval
If your Slack org requires approval for app scopes, a Slack admin approves or reinstalls the app. Reconnect when a new action needs a new scope.
Workspace admins enable it
On Business the Slack app is on by default. On Enterprise and Edu an admin enables it and sets which roles may use it.
Or add @ChatGPT to Slack
Business, Enterprise and Edu can add @ChatGPT to Slack, which runs as a service account with workspace credits rather than as you.

Troubleshooting
ChatGPT's Slack connector not working?
Slack is missing or an action fails
Check that the Slack app and that action are enabled for your workspace, and that a Slack admin approved or reinstalled the app with the scopes it needs. Then reconnect.
Search results are missing messages
Slack's retention policy may have removed them, or you lost access to the channel. ChatGPT only sees what your Slack account can see.
Slack stops answering partway through deep research
Deep research, Pro models and agent mode can use up your own Slack API quota. Try a narrower request or wait for the quota to reset.
@ChatGPT cannot see a private channel or file
@ChatGPT runs as a service account and does not inherit your access. It can ask to use your own connected apps, with your approval.

It sits beside OpenAI's Slack app and @ChatGPT in Slack rather than replacing it. Connecting Slack to The Drive AI comes with Max and Team; files in The Drive AI workspace work on every plan.

Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, then paste the server URL and sign in. Changing files from ChatGPT needs a Business or Enterprise workspace, where an admin publishes the server; on Pro, custom servers can only read.

Prompts for Slack
When someone shares a file in our #clients Slack channel, save a copy to Google Drive, read the client name off it, rename it date-first, and file it under that client.
Client files posted in Slack end up in the client's folder, named the same way every time.
When a file is shared in our #legal Slack channel, ask AI whether it is a signed contract or a draft, and file signed contracts in SharePoint under Contracts by counterparty.
Executed agreements are pulled out of the channel and filed where legal looks for them.
