Do I need my IT administrator to approve this?

Yes, once. SharePoint permissions reach other people’s sites, and Microsoft only lets a tenant administrator grant those. If your connect attempt is refused, the app gives you the approval link, the permissions in plain language, and a request ready to paste into a ticket. After one approval, everyone in the organization can connect.

Which sites and libraries can it reach?

Every site the connected work account can already open. Your SharePoint permissions are the boundary; connecting grants no access the account did not already have. You choose one site and one library at a time.

Does connecting put my whole tenant under watch?

No. Connecting registers nothing. A library is watched only because a workflow names it, and it stops being watched when no workflow does.

How does this overlap with the Teams integration?

Creating a Team creates a SharePoint site, and its channels are folders in that site’s library, so a file dropped in a Teams channel is a SharePoint file. Those libraries are marked in the picker, and when both integrations see the same upload, a workflow still runs once.

Does it work with SharePoint Server on-premises?

No. The integration is for SharePoint Online, part of Microsoft 365.
