Move Files From Dropbox to Google Drive Without Downloading
The team moved to Google Workspace, but the client folders are still in Dropbox. Downloading 7 GB to a laptop and uploading it again is the plan nobody wants to own.

The short answer
Connect Dropbox and Google Drive to The Drive AI, then ask it to move the folder: it proposes the transfer as one change, keeping the folder structure, and the files go drive to drive without touching your computer. Each file is copied into Google Drive and checked, and only then is the original moved to Dropbox's trash. Moving between drives always waits for your confirmation, runs in the background, and can be undone.
Ask it
What you type, and what comes back
Move the Clients folder from my Dropbox into Google Drive under Clients, keeping the folder structure. Check each copy before removing anything from Dropbox.

Step by step
- 1
Measure
Measures the Dropbox folder: files, subfolders, total size
- 2
Propose
Builds the move into Google Drive, folder structure included
- 3
Confirm
Starts it once you confirm, in the background
- 4
Report
Follows the transfer and reports when every file is across
What comes back
Dropbox/Clients: 1,284 files in 96 folders, 7.2 GB.
Plan: move all of it to Google Drive/Clients.
Each file is copied, checked, then the original goes to Dropbox's trash.
Moving between drives always asks first. Say go to start.
...
Done: 1,284 of 1,284 files copied, checked and moved.
An example run. Nothing leaves Dropbox until its copy in Google Drive has been checked.

What it needs
From Claude or ChatGPT
Prefer to stay in Claude or ChatGPT? Add The Drive AI as a connector, then paste the same prompt. Without it, neither has a way to reach these drives as a batch.
Claude.ai and Claude Desktop
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste the server URL. Connectors are on your account, so the desktop app gets it too.
ChatGPT
Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, then paste the server URL and sign in. Changing files from ChatGPT needs a Business or Enterprise workspace, where an admin publishes the server; on Pro, custom servers can only read.

Dropbox and Google Drive, connected in The Drive AI
The job runs on your Dropbox and Google Drive where the files already are, so that account is connected in The Drive AI first. Working in connected drives comes with Max and Team. Files you keep in The Drive AI workspace work on any plan.
See plansWhat asks first, and what can be undone
Reading and searching change nothing. By default, up to 20 moves, renames or new folders apply at once; anything larger, and anything that trashes, edits or moves a file between drives, comes back as a preview with counts and samples for you to confirm. An applied change is undone as a whole with one request. Moves and renames reverse as long as the file has not changed since; trashed files come back from Google Drive, personal OneDrive and Dropbox, and from work OneDrive or SharePoint only where an admin has allowed restores.
Then ask
Follow-up prompts
Compare Dropbox/Clients and Google Drive/Clients and tell me if anything is missing.
A file-by-file check after the move, by name and size, before anyone deletes the Dropbox trash.
Now do the same for Dropbox/Archive, one year at a time.
Large folders go in parts. Splitting by year keeps each move inside the per-move limit.
Undo the last change.
Restores the Dropbox originals from the trash and removes the copies from Google Drive.
Tips and limits
Large folders go in parts
One move between drives carries up to 2,000 files and 20 GB. For a bigger folder, ask for it a subfolder or a year at a time; each part is its own change with its own preview and undo.
Wait for a new drive to finish its first scan
Right after you connect a drive, The Drive AI is still listing what is in it. Moving a folder out of a drive mid-scan is refused so nothing is left behind; copying a single file still works.
It does not keep the two drives in sync
This is a one-time move. Files added to the Dropbox folder afterwards stay in Dropbox. If you want new files copied across as they arrive, that is a workflow, not a chat request.
FAQ
Common questions
How do I move files from Dropbox to Google Drive without downloading them?
Connect both accounts to The Drive AI once, then ask it to move the folder. Files go drive to drive, so nothing is downloaded to your computer. The same request works from Claude or ChatGPT with The Drive AI connector added.
What happens to the files in Dropbox?
Each original is moved to Dropbox's trash only after its copy in Google Drive has been checked. It stays there for Dropbox's retention period, 30 days or longer depending on your Dropbox plan.
Is this a migration tool for a whole company?
Not really. It suits moving folders of up to 2,000 files at a time, with a preview and undo for each. Moving an entire company's Dropbox, with its sharing and permissions, is a job for a dedicated migration tool.
Is the folder structure kept?
Yes. Subfolders are recreated in Google Drive and each file lands in the same place relative to the folder you moved.
Ask it here, or from Claude or ChatGPT.
The same sentence works in The Drive AI, and in Claude or ChatGPT with our connector. Either way, a large change comes back as a preview for you to confirm, and anything applied can be undone as a whole.
