Your phone's voice assistant can open apps and set timers, but it can't reach into a folder of contracts and pull out the one with the termination clause. An AI file assistant can. In The Drive AI app you hold the mic, say "find the lease I signed in March" or "move last month's receipts into Taxes 2026", and let go. The assistant finds the file by what it says, or shows you the moves before it makes them. ## Why is finding a file on a phone so hard? Because the file browser on a phone is a desktop file browser with a smaller screen. You scroll folders, you guess a file name, you type a search with your thumbs. If you don't remember the name, and most of the time you don't, the search box doesn't help. What you do remember is what the file is about: who sent it, roughly when, what it says. Saying that out loud is faster than typing it, and an assistant that searches by meaning can use it. ## What can you do by voice in The Drive AI? Hold the mic button in the assistant's message box, speak, and let go to send. Some things people say: ``` Find the contract with Acme that mentions auto-renewal. ``` ``` What did we pay the plumber in August? ``` ``` Rename the scans in Inbox after what they are. ``` ``` Move every invoice from 2025 into Accounting/2025. ``` ``` Share the Henderson folder with sam@example.com, view only. ``` Finding and answering happen right away. The assistant searches your files by what's in them, not just by name, and answers with the files it used. Scans count too, once their text has been read. Anything that changes files works differently. The assistant shows you a card first: how many files, a sample of the new names or folders, and a button that says what it's about to do, such as **Apply 12 changes**. Nothing moves until you tap it. A large change asks you to confirm a second time. Once it's done, **Undo** reverses the moves and renames as one change. Sharing and other actions that reach other people ask for your approval the same way. ## Will it understand the names of my files and clients? Mostly, and better than plain dictation. Speech recognition is trained on everyday English, so it mangles exactly the words that matter here: a client called Repsol comes out as "rep sol", a folder called Calgary as "calgery". The Drive AI app checks what you said against your own file and folder names and fixes those words before the message is sent. It leans toward leaving your words alone when it isn't sure, because a wrong correction could point a request at the wrong file. That's also why every change is shown to you before it happens. Voice input works in English for now. ## Can Siri or Google Assistant do this? Not with your documents in another app's storage. The Drive AI doesn't connect to Siri or Shortcuts; you open the app and hold the mic. What does exist is AI inside one company's own app. Since June 2026, Gemini in the Google Drive app answers questions about your files and folders, with a Google AI Pro or paid Workspace plan. That works if all your files are in Google Drive and finding or summarizing them is all you need. It doesn't help when files are spread across Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox, or when you want them renamed and moved rather than listed. Yes. Connect Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint or Dropbox and the assistant finds and organizes files there the same way, in place. They stay in your drive; nothing is copied into The Drive AI to make that work. Connected drives come with the Max and Team plans. A request like "sort my whole Downloads folder by client" can take a while. You don't need to keep the app open. The app sends a notification when the task needs a decision from you and when it's finished. On an iPhone, a running task also shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Can I search for a file by describing it instead of naming it? Yes. An AI file assistant searches by meaning, so "the contract with the auto-renewal clause" finds the right document even if its name is `scan_0042.pdf`. The phone's own search bar in most file apps matches only file names. ### Is it safe to let an AI move files when I'm speaking, not typing? It's as safe as typing, because nothing changes on your word alone. Every move, rename or deletion is shown to you first, and only happens when you tap to apply it. Moves and renames can be undone as one change afterwards. ### Does voice input work offline? No. The assistant needs a connection to search your files and act on them. Your folder listings are kept on the phone, so you can still browse them while offline. ### Which languages does voice input support? English, for now. You can still type requests in the message box. ### Is the app free? Yes. The Drive AI is free to download on iPhone and Android, and the free plan includes 20 assistant tasks a month.
