# Best MCP Servers for Google Drive, OneDrive & Dropbox 2026

> **TL;DR:** If you want an agent to change files across more than one cloud and be able to reverse a whole batch, **The Drive AI** is the only server here that does both. For a few actions at a time in Google Drive from Claude, **Claude's built-in Google Drive connector** is the simplest. For Dropbox alone, **Dropbox's own MCP server** is the best single-vendor option, with recoverable deletes and revision restore. **Google's** and **Microsoft's** official servers are aimed at developers and admins, and the **aggregators** (Zapier, Composio) cover everything, one raw API call at a time.

House rule for this post: every claim links to its source, checked on October 14, 2026. Where a vendor's page didn't confirm something, the post says so.

Disclosure: The Drive AI publishes this guide and is one of the servers in it. It's ranked first for two documented properties, described below; where another server is the better choice, the post says so.

## What kinds of MCP servers work with cloud drives?

"An MCP server for Google Drive" can mean five quite different things in 2026:

- **Connectors built into an assistant.** Claude's Google Drive and Microsoft 365 connectors, ChatGPT's apps. Nothing to host; the assistant's maker decides what they can do.
- **Official servers from the storage company.** Google's Workspace servers, Microsoft's Work IQ, Dropbox's and Box's. Closest to the platform, usually aimed at developers or admins.
- **Aggregators.** Zapier, Composio and Pipedream expose thousands of app actions as tools and meter each call.
- **Open-source servers you run.** You bring your own OAuth client and host it yourself.
- **Cross-drive agents.** One server across several clouds, with its own model of a change.

## What should a file MCP server do?

The questions that separate them:

1. **Can it change files, or only read them?** And which changes: move, rename, share, delete?
2. **Does a person approve changes**, and can an admin require that?
3. **Can a change be undone?** Is delete a recoverable trash, or permanent?
4. **Does it reach shared drives and SharePoint libraries**, not just My Drive?
5. **Is there a log** of what the agent did?
6. **How do you sign in?** One click, your own Cloud project and OAuth client, or tenant admin consent?
7. **What does a call cost?** Included, per task, per call or in credits?

## Which MCP servers work with Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox?

### 1. The Drive AI

**What it is:** a remote MCP server (`https://thedriveai.fastmcp.app/mcp`) with one set of tools across Google Drive (including shared drives), OneDrive, SharePoint, Dropbox and The Drive AI's own storage. ([MCP page](https://thedrive.ai/mcp))

- **Changes:** move, rename, copy, create folders, trash, and create or edit documents, across all of those drives and between them.
- **Safety:** a change is proposed first and returns a preview (a count, sample rows, name conflicts and the risk). Applying a large or destructive one needs a confirmation tied to that preview, valid for 15 minutes. `changeset_undo` reverses the whole change.
- **Sign-in and cost:** OAuth in the browser with any The Drive AI account (Google, Microsoft, Apple or email), and a device-code sign-in for agents without a browser. Working in connected drives needs the Max plan or any Team plan (Max is $99.99 a month); direct tool calls don't count as tasks. ([Plans](https://thedrive.ai/plans))
- **Where it falls short:** the price for someone who needs one drive.
- **Best for:** reorganizing many files, across more than one cloud, where you need to see the whole change first and be able to take it back. Our [guide to the server](https://thedrive.ai/blog/mcp-server-google-drive-onedrive-dropbox) goes deeper.

### 2. Claude's Google Drive connector

**What it is:** Anthropic's built-in connector for Google Workspace. It searches and reads Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs and Office files, uploads, creates folders, shows permissions, and can share, move and trash files. ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/10166901-using-the-google-workspace-connectors))

- **Safety:** Claude asks before each share, move or trash by default. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members can turn that off, and must enable the connector for the organization.
- **Where it falls short:** one action at a time, with no batch preview or undo. Anthropic's page doesn't mention shared drives, and only the text of documents is read.
- **Best for:** Claude users doing a handful of Drive actions in a conversation.

### 3. Dropbox MCP server

**What it is:** Dropbox's official remote server at `https://mcp.dropbox.com/mcp`, in beta. ([Dropbox Help](https://help.dropbox.com/integrations/connect-dropbox-mcp-server))

- **Changes:** create folders and files, copy, move (which also renames), delete, shared links, file requests, and restoring a file revision or a folder.
- **Safety:** Delete goes to Deleted files, recoverable within your plan's window, and the restore tools give an agent a real way back. Large copy, move and delete jobs run in the background with a status check.
- **Limits:** folder listings return 100 items per call, and reading or creating file content is capped at 5 MB.
- **Clients:** Claude Code, Claude on the web, ChatGPT on the web, Codex and Cursor. Dropbox also runs a separate, read-only Dash server for search across Dash sources. ([Dropbox Help](https://help.dropbox.com/integrations/set-up-MCP-server))
- **Best for:** agents working in Dropbox only.

### 4. ChatGPT's Drive, SharePoint and Dropbox apps

**What they are:** apps inside ChatGPT. OpenAI's help pages describe the Google Drive app as able to create, update, move, share and delete files, subject to your Google permissions, with ChatGPT asking for confirmation. ([OpenAI Help](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/10948259-google-drive-app-and-setup-in-chatgpt)) The SharePoint app covers SharePoint and work or school OneDrive, not personal OneDrive. ([OpenAI Help](https://help.openai.com/fr-fr/articles/12143177-sharepoint-app-and-setup-in-chatgpt))

- **Dropbox's app for ChatGPT**, built by Dropbox, searches, reads, saves, moves, copies and deletes, restores revisions, and makes shared links and file requests; ChatGPT asks permission before any change. ([Dropbox Help](https://help.dropbox.com/integrations/chatGPT-app))
- **Where they fall short:** one action at a time inside a chat, and they only work in ChatGPT. OpenAI's pages were partly unavailable when we checked, so confirm the details for your plan.
- **Best for:** people who live in ChatGPT.

### 5. Claude's Microsoft 365 connector

**What it is:** Anthropic's connector for SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams, on every Claude plan. ([Claude docs](https://claude.com/docs/connectors/microsoft/365))

- **Requirements:** a work or school account and consent from a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator. Personal OneDrive isn't supported.
- **Changes:** the documented file write is "Create and update files in SharePoint", off until admins enable writes in both Entra and Claude's settings.
- **Best for:** Microsoft 365 organizations standardizing on Claude, with IT involved.

### 6. Google Workspace MCP servers

**What they are:** Google's official remote servers, in Developer Preview: nine of them, including one for Drive at `https://drivemcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1`. ([Google for Developers](https://developers.google.com/workspace/drive/api/reference/mcp))

- **Changes:** the Drive server's eight tools search, read, download, show metadata and permissions, list recent files, create files and copy them. There's no move, share or delete.
- **Setup:** join the preview program, create a Cloud project and your own OAuth client. Claude's paid plans can add them as custom connectors. ([Google for Developers](https://developers.google.com/workspace/guides/configure-mcp-servers))
- **Best for:** developers building read-heavy agents on Google's own surface.

### 7. Microsoft Work IQ MCP

**What it is:** Microsoft's generally available MCP service over Microsoft Graph: one endpoint, ten generic tools for reading, creating, updating and deleting Graph entities and running actions such as copy and move. ([Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/copilot/extensibility/work-iq/mcp/tool-reference))

- **Safety:** write operations are blocked by default by tenant policy until an admin allows them. Sign-in is delegated Entra auth only.
- **Cost:** billed per use in Copilot Credits. ([Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/copilot/extensibility/work-iq/api-overview)) Microsoft's older per-product SharePoint and OneDrive servers are kept only for backward compatibility. ([Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-agent-365/tooling-servers-overview))
- **Where it falls short:** generic Graph tools leave the agent to work out paths and request shapes, and setup is admin-heavy.
- **Best for:** enterprises building their own agents on Microsoft 365.

### 8. Zapier MCP

**What it is:** Zapier's actions exposed as MCP tools, on every Zapier plan. Each tool call costs two tasks, actions are logged in Zapier's History, and admins can restrict apps and actions. ([Zapier](https://zapier.com/mcp))

- **Google Drive actions:** move, rename, copy, share, create folders, and delete. There's no trash action: Zapier's Drive delete is permanent. Shared drives are supported. ([Zapier](https://zapier.com/apps/google-drive/integrations))
- **Best for:** agents that touch many apps, where the Drive step is one of several.

### 9. Composio

**What it is:** a developer platform with 92 Google Drive tools, including move, trash and untrash, permissions and shared drives. ([Composio](https://composio.dev/toolkits/googledrive))

- **Cost:** a free tier of 100,000 calls a month (20,000 with Composio's managed OAuth apps); Pro is $29 a month, then $0.0003 a call. ([Composio pricing](https://composio.dev/pricing))
- **Best for:** developers who want fine-grained Drive tools in their own agent and will build the safety layer themselves.

### 10. Open-source servers

- **[taylorwilsdon/google_workspace_mcp](https://github.com/taylorwilsdon/google_workspace_mcp):** the most popular, about 3,300 GitHub stars, actively released, MIT. Runs locally or remotely, OAuth 2.1, with a read-only flag.
- **[piotr-agier/google-drive-mcp](https://github.com/piotr-agier/google-drive-mcp):** a large toolset with shared-drive support, sharing and permissions, and service accounts.
- **Avoid:** the original reference Google Drive server from the MCP project, archived and "no longer maintained" since May 2025. ([GitHub](https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers-archived))

Best for teams that want full control and are comfortable owning an OAuth client and the hosting.

**One for comparison:** Box has an official remote server with 54 tools, where move, rename and sharing stay off until an admin enables them, and there's no delete tool at all. ([Box Developer](https://developer.box.com/guides/box-mcp/tools))

## What can't these MCP servers do yet?

Two things, from what the vendors document:

- **Batch preview and undo.** Apart from The Drive AI, every server here works one action at a time. The nearest safeguards are a confirmation per action (Claude, ChatGPT), recoverable deletes and revision restore (Dropbox), and writes that are off until an admin allows them (Box, Work IQ, Claude's Microsoft 365 connector).
- **More than one cloud.** Apart from The Drive AI, only the aggregators and rclone-based servers reach several vendors, and they do it as raw API wrappers.

## Which MCP server should you choose?

- **A few actions in Google Drive from Claude:** Claude's connector.
- **Dropbox only:** Dropbox's MCP server.
- **Microsoft 365 with IT involved:** Claude's Microsoft 365 connector, or Work IQ if you're building your own agent.
- **Building your own agent:** Composio, Google's preview servers or an open-source server.
- **Many apps, of which Drive is one:** Zapier.
- **Large changes across several drives, with a preview and an undo:** The Drive AI.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is there an official Google Drive MCP server?

Yes, in Developer Preview. Google's Drive server can search, read, download, create and copy files, but not move, share or delete them, and setup needs your own Cloud project and OAuth client.

### Can Claude move files in Google Drive?

Yes. Claude's Google Drive connector can share, move and trash files, asking before each action by default. It works one action at a time, without a batch preview or undo.

### Which MCP servers can undo changes?

The Drive AI reverses a whole change with one call. Dropbox's server can restore file revisions and folders, and its deletes are recoverable. The others document per-action confirmation at most.

### Is there an MCP server for OneDrive and SharePoint?

Yes. Claude's Microsoft 365 connector and Microsoft's Work IQ both reach SharePoint and work OneDrive with admin consent, and The Drive AI covers OneDrive and SharePoint alongside Google Drive and Dropbox. Personal OneDrive accounts aren't supported by Claude's or ChatGPT's connectors.

### What does an MCP server for Google Drive cost?

Claude's and ChatGPT's connectors come with the assistant. Zapier spends two tasks per call, Composio meters calls past its free tier, Work IQ uses Copilot Credits, and The Drive AI needs a Max or Team plan for connected drives.

## Try it on one folder

Whichever server you connect, start by asking it to describe a folder before you let it change one, and read the first change it proposes in full.
